When you’re facing uncertainty, life changes, depression, or anxiety, you don’t want to worry about censoring parts of yourself in therapy. You want an affirming therapist, who honors your identity so you can share openly and honestly. Effective therapy cultivates a welcoming space for you to share your experiences, challenges, pain, and joy.

Kelley Lockwood, LCSW, a therapist in Athens, GA

I'm Kelley (she/her)

I’m a licensed clinical social worker, providing perinatal mental health therapy to individuals on the path to parenthood. I offer intentional and trauma-informed support for folks whether you're planning a family, grieving a loss, pregnant, or adjusting to your new role as parent. I’m also passionate about working with adults navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, relationships, and life transitions.

My belief in the healing that occurs when your worth and autonomy are promoted and valued, is what led me to a career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker 14 years ago. Throughout my work, I’ve been continuously awed and humbled by my clients’ courage, strength, and willingness to do the hard work of therapy.

When I'm not in the office (or more recently, working from home), I'm busy helping two little ones learn to navigate life, running trails and advocating for social justice.

My Approach

I take a trauma-informed and inclusive approach to therapy. In therapy with me, you’ll have a space to safely explore your experiences, emotions, and relationships. Our sessions will be collaborative and strengths-based, meaning we’ll work together and draw from your skills and knowledge.

During treatment, I’ll use different therapeutic methods depending on your needs and strengths. These may include Internal Family Systems (IFS), Psychodynamic, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Somatic, CBT, or DBT. I’ll take an active role by offering support and feedback as we work toward your chosen goals and healing.

Equity

At the heart of my practice, I’m dedicated to treating every individual with respect and fairness and acknowledging their unique experiences, backgrounds, and strengths. I strive to create an inclusive space where everyone's voice is heard and one’s identity and culture are honored.

Justice

Systems of oppression impact mental health. This understanding leads me to continually advocate for my clients' rights and work to address systemic inequalities outside of therapy. I also aim to support clients in navigating the challenges they face, while fostering a sense of agency and resilience.

Empowerment

I believe in guiding and supporting clients to recognize their strengths, make informed decisions, and take control of their lives. Through collaborative conversations and skill-building, I empower clients to set and achieve meaningful goals, fostering a sense of self-efficacy and confidence in their ability to overcome obstacles.
